Step 1: Bezeling the Rivolis

The first step is to bezel the rivolis. You can use 14mm, 16mm, or 18mm rivolis, or any combination of these sizes. Bezel the stones with technique 2 on page 27.

Step 2: Connecting the Stones

Begin with the center rivoli in the necklace. Weave your thread down to the middle row of the three rows of cylinder beads at the center of the bezel. Coming out of one of these beads, pick up a cylinder bead and go through the next cylinder bead in the row. Repeat so that you now have two cylinder beads that “stand out” from the bezel.

Peyote-stitch two beads back the other way to create a tab that is four beads wide. Continue peyote-stitching back and forth until you have completed seven rows of peyote stitch. Zip this connector tab into the next bezeled stone by zigzagging through the up beads.

Weave across to the other side of the second stone and create another tab to link it to the third stone. Angle the connections slightly to create a curve in the front piece of the necklace. The two sides will mirror each other in the placement of the tabs (a). It is helpful to begin at the center and work out in either direction. (It may help to work with a velvet necklace bust to determine the right curve for the necklace.)
